Expertise
During Andy’s successful career in the U.S. Army, he led military, civilian, and multinational teams on the Army’s highest priority missions, programs, and projects throughout the world. Notable roles included Chief of Staff for the Assistant Secretary of the Army (Installations, Energy, & Environment), Engineer Director for NATO in Afghanistan, Commander of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Norfolk District, and Commander of the 249th Engineer Battalion (Prime Power) during multiple tours of duty overseas.
Andy earned his bachelor’s degree in business management from the United States Military Academy at West Point. He also earned a Master of Science in engineering from the University of Washington and completed Harvard University’s National Security Fellows Program. Andy is a registered Professional Engineer (PE) and a certified Project Management Professional (PMP).
The Personal Side
Andy and his wife are proud parents of two children. Their son is lawyer practicing in Charlotte, North Carolina; their daughter is an Army Nurse. The Backus family loves to attend sporting events, especially college football games.
